Hi Guys
We just watched the TV show, Beauty And The Geek. We thought about if the producers of this show are encouraging or humiliating the contestants that are in this TV show.
Is it just some harmless fun or is it dangerous stereo-typing?
Are people offended or have they been told to play the role as a Beauty or a Geek?

I agree with this point Amy, as stereotypes can be seen as racism, sexism etc. This can be serious if people are being payed to be ridiculed by the public. Most people see it as a way to get entertainment. I f you’ve ever heard the saying:
‘The camera never lies.’ that’s not entirely true. From how people look, to the way they act, can be completely changed with scripts and technology.
Your insights got me thinking Eilish. Stereotypes in whose eyes? Could it be that participants in this genre of show might have a desire for fame? Does reality TV and the Internet provide a cheap and easy way to gain public attention and create a career (or income)? Why is this called entertainment? Why has society got a preoccupation with watching, or possibly living their lives, through others? Why do we grimace but still watch a “train wreck” happen? As for your observation that the camera never lies myth, appearances change depending on the targeted viewer. Shows are made for an audience – selective editing/ reporting play a big role.
