Hello Grade 4/5s I was sitting at home thinking about the holidays and all the extreme weather we’ve been having. It’s incredible that we live in a country where you can have floods in one part of the country and devastating bushfires in another part. I was amazed and saddened by the bushfires in Tasmania, many of my friends live in and around Forcett, Dunalley and Murdunna. I taught at Dunalley so when the school was burnt down I was very upset.
I am really impressed by how the Tasmanian people have rallied around to help.
I was wondering whether any of you have been affected by the bushfires? Do you have friends or family who live in the area the fires were? Maybe you know somebody in Queensland where the floods have been? Let us know how these events have affected you?

It’s great to see that 4/5 are getting into blogging.
I spent a lot of years in Queensland and the first year we moved up there our house was in the Tweed River twice in two weeks! Luckily it was a high-set house and the water wasn’t in the house, just under it (about a metre).
It was very boring as we couldn’t go anywhere in the car for two days while the water went down, so after the main flood had passed we spent time wading around the town in knee-deep water meeting up with our neighbours.
The worst thing was the clean-up of very smelly mud that was through the garden and under the house. It took a long time to hose it away.
Our house was in Tumbulgum which was flooded just recently again. Lots of our Queensland neighbours thought that we would be used to floods, coming from Tasmania, but I had to tell them that I’d never been in a flood here.
Hello
my best friend had to evacuate from the bush fires and I was really sad when I found out that she had to evacuate from the bush fires because she is my best friend in the hole wide world and I will never forget that she had to evacuate from the bush fires.I also had to evacuate from the bush fires but my house wasn’t bur’t down or anything but it was very scary when it happened.the night that it happened I didn’t get to sleep till 1:00 in the morning and I woke up at about 8:30 or 8:00.My family evacuated to my cousins house and I had to sleep on the top bunk of my cousin molly’s bed and it was very hot.
[...] extreme weather [...]
I was in Queensland during a terrible thunderstorm. Quite amazing but scary too. I have never seen lightning quite like it!
Do you know what you should do if you are caught outside in a thunderstorm?
just stand there and watch because there amazing up there not compared to Tasmania.

Can’t wait to go to school tomorrow. Ahhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can remember my first day of Grade 4. It was February 7th 1967. Black Tuesday. It was a terrible day in Southern Tasmania. Many houses were burnt down and 62 people died. Some towns like Snug were badly affected just like Dunalley was this year. We have always had unusual periods of weather, and events like floods, droughts and bushfires will happen every now and then.
I do not know anybody that was affected, but it still makes me sad that this has happened. I’m proud to be Tasmanian.
Hi mrs Hameed it’s Lucy D.
I know someone who lives in Queensland, even though Queensland has had lots of floods nine of the floods have effected them.
Also, there was a fire at risdonvale but I think it is under control now.
