Our Twitter Wall is Up

Yet another fantastic idea taken from Longford Primary School

Ladies and gentlemen, we have begun tweeting!

Ok so not really, we have not joined Twitter – that would not be appropriate for 9 and 10 year olds. However we are using the idea of broadcasting our thoughts and reflections for others to see, just like adults do on Twitter.

Instead of using an electronic format for this, we are using a simple low-tech approach – laminated cards and whiteboard marker, with a literal plaster wall in place of a figurative digital one. It is the perfect blend of the old and the new.

Our Twitter wall is a way of publicly sharing our reflections on what we have learned. Most days we try and write a tweet, and we also try and read the Tweets our classmates have written. Sometimes we find everybody has learned the same thing, other times we realise that everybody has learned something different. Occasionally we are reminded of something we already knew but hadn’t thought about in a while, which is also exciting.

Once again thanks to the talented teachers at Longford Primary School for the idea, Tweeting is a much cooler way to do daily reflections than what we were doing in Term 1.

AFL Quiz

Some students from 3/4G are going to participate in the AFL Quiz, starting on the 20th of May. The AFL Quiz is a NAPLAN-style multiple choice problem-solving quiz for Year 3 to 6 students, with a football theme (of course!).

Just like the AFL, there are qualifying rounds, and then finals. You can register for the AFL Quiz at http://www.aflquiz.com.au/

Good luck to the teams competing from Evandale: the Hawkons, the Higers, Southeast Crocs and East Longford. And good luck to anybody else who registers!

Have fun =)

Mothers Day Hand Cards

In 3/4 Guy this afternoon we began making some cards for Mothers Day, using a traced outline of our hands to make a picture of our Mum. We got the idea from the wonderfully creative willowday blog, a great resource for craft ideas and inspiration!

While it will take us another lesson or so to get finished, here are some of our works in progress for you to enjoy:

Avatar Challenge

Use the Simpsons Movie website to create an avatar for use on the school blog. The website is here: Simpsons Avatar Creator

When you’ve made your avatar, cut it out using the “Snipping tool” in Accessories.

Save it to your computer/USB drive, then upload it to your profile.

Enjoy!,
Mr Guy

Check out the Longford Primary Blog

As a starting point for blogging, it’s great to see what other people are doing – particularly other schools near us. So go and check out what Longford’s 3/4s are blogging about. Maybe you might even leave them an encouraging comment on their work?

The link is here: http://eschoolblogs.org.au/kdavey/

Happy reading!
